GoldenTV Launches New Programming, Partnerships and Promotions during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

Addressing the continued need for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander storytelling and experiences, GoldenTV announces new programming, partnerships and promotions that spotlight the fastest-growing ethnic segment in the United States.

"The buying power of the growing AANHPI community is now at $1.3 trillion, illustrating the demand for more Asian Pacific content," said Takashi Cheng, CEO of Golden Media, parent company of GoldenTV. "More Asian Pacific American viewers are streaming than ever before," referring to the recent Nielsen report* that AANHPI TV usage made up 45.4 percent of all streaming activity, compared with 36 percent amongst the general U.S. population.

GoldenTV kicks off new programming in May with Hearst Television's new documentary, "Refugees Welcome: How a Governor Changed the Face of Iowa." Reflecting on the history of the Hawkeye State's Southeast Asian community, "Refugees Welcome" is streaming now on Very Local and GoldenTV as well as cable channel ChimeTV powered by GoldenTV, airing on May 11 (6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT), May 12 (7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT), May 19 (7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT), and May 26 (7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT).

Laura Ling, executive producer of "Refugees Welcome" noted, "As a proud Asian American, I was intrigued and inspired by the story of the Tai Dam ethnic minority that settled in Iowa in 1975, thanks to the bold actions of Governor Robert Ray. We wanted to highlight the vibrant culture and resilience of this Southeast Asian community."

In other programming, Roshan Sethi's hit rom-com "7 Days" makes its GoldenTV debut on May 25, bringing to new audiences the story of an Indian American couple stuck together when the shelter-in-place mandate happens immediately following an awkward first date. Also premiering in May is "Blurring the Color Line," a documentary that follows director Crystal Kwok as she unpacks the history behind her grandmother's mixed-race family in Augusta, Georgia, during the Jim Crow era. "Blurring the Color Line" will air on May 26, along with more AAPI programming on cable channel ChimeTV powered by GoldenTV.

"The history of the AANHPI community shows that we are only stronger together," added Cheng. "This month and all year long really, we honor the stories of those that came before us by continuing that legacy of partnership and creating more space for our community to work collaboratively and promote togetherness."

Under Cheng's leadership, GoldenTV is activating several new partnerships and promotions, including its support of the ABC Foundation with an exclusive streaming gift for new donors and current members throughout the month of May. GoldenTV is also proud to support Gold House as a Bronze Leader at the third annual Gold Gala to be held on May 11, and is working with the City of L.A. Mayor's Office as the official media partner of the AAPI LA Market at the May 19 Smorgasbord LA at ROW DTLA. Later this year, Golden Media will lead the return of the celebrated API awards event Unforgettable Gala, marking its 22nd year as a leader in recognizing API breakthroughs and talent.
