Albertsons and Tom Thumb Stores in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas Voluntarily Recall Five Candy Products in Cooperation with Palmer Candy Company and Valley Milk Products LLC Recalls, Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination

FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In cooperation with Palmer Candy Company, Albertsons and Tom Thumb stores in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas are voluntarily recalling five candy products made with milk powder produced by Valley Milk Products LLC. Valley Milk Products voluntarily recalled the milk powder due to possible Salmonella contamination. Palmer Candy Company used the milk powder in candy items supplied to Albertsons and Tom Thumb and contained in the recalled products.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and persons with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and/or abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism entering the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
