Supervisor Cortese Statement Defending Independent Judiciary from Trump White House Attacks

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- "President Trump's latest reckless attack on our independent judiciary should frighten all Americans that believe, especially with this administration, that our system of checks and balances is a pillar of our democracy. Denigrating Judges and dismissing their well-reasoned rulings upholding our constitution is a dangerous precedent that we condemn and will resist.

In a recurring pattern that emanates from the White House anytime anyone disagrees with President Trump, he and his administration resort to their familiar school-yard bullying tactics. They stoop to name-calling, promote falsehoods and ramp up their twitter taunts. Judge Orrick issued a ruling that upholds the constitution, upholds the separation of powers, and checks President Trump's thirst for trampling our laws to advance his mean-spirited and unlawful immigration policies.

Santa Clara County will continue to stand up to bullies, no matter how powerful they may be."
