Idaho Mortgage Bankers Fly to Nation's Capital to Discuss Critical Housing Issues with Congressional Delegation

BOISE, Idaho, June 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Members of the Idaho Mortgage Lenders Association (IMLA) will visit Washington, D.C. this week to press the Idaho Congressional Delegation to act on key real estate issues, including housing finance reform, that directly impact the state's economy.

"I am confident in our ability to educate our representatives that housing reform is what's best for Idahoans," said Alison Gillespie, President of IMLA. "We elected our members on the condition that they would look out for us, and I am confident they will keep their promises. Idaho was hit hard by the 2008 financial crisis and housing finance reform presents a great opportunity finally to move forward."

Each year, the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) holds a National Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C. This year's MBA conference will begin on Tuesday, June 20th and will include updates on best practices from industry leaders, engaging networking events, and an opportunity for attendees to speak with their Congressional representatives.

Idaho Mortgage Lenders Association members will advocate for, among other issues, housing finance reform. They will educate members on the importance of a strong housing finance system and ask them to consider MBA's recently released proposal, recommending a revitalized system that promotes competition, protects taxpayers, and ensures ample credit for all of Idaho's housing needs.

"We believe this bipartisan solution should be given the full attention it deserves," said Ryan Froehlich, Vice President of IMLA and Legislative Liaison. "As an association, we are steadfast in our belief that this is the right approach, and we will work as hard as we can to ensure that our time in Washington can help bring housing finance reform to the forefront."
