Dr. Robert E. Thaxton MD, FACEP, FAAEM is recognized by Continental Who's Who

SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Robert E. Thaxton MD, FACEP, FAAEM is recognized by Continental Who's Who as a 2017 Platinum Lifetime Professional in the field of Emergency Medicine.        

Dr. Thaxton is currently a practicing physician at the Inwood Emergency Room in San Antonio, Texas. The clinic is a veteran owned and staffed medical company. The majority of the medical staff has experience treating wounded military personnel.  They started the facility to give back to the community and to "raise the standard one patient at a time."  The clinic is a full-service medical emergency room that caters to everything from the common cold to medical emergencies.

Dr. Thaxton served 24 years in the U.S. Air Force, before retiring at the rank of Colonel. During his time as a military physician, he served in hospitals on military bases across the world. However, after serving as a general medical doctor at an emergency room in England, he became drawn to pursuing emergency medicine.

Due to his outstanding career, both inside and outside of the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Thaxton has gained a lot of professional recognition and maintains memberships with many prestigious associations. He was a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America, former Chair of Ethics at the Wilford Hall Medical Center, and the past Chair of the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC) Professionalism Sub-committee. He also spent 10 years in Graduate Medical Education; 5 years as Associate Program Director and 5 years as Program Director of the Army/Air Force Emergency Medicine Residency Program.

Additionally, he has been recognized by the International Association of Healthcare Professionals, and is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Thaxton's advice to someone starting out in the profession is to "go into it for the right reasons, to make it your passion and always remember that the patient always comes first." His key to success is, "being teachable and humble, believe in yourself and your abilities, be careful of becoming consumed with pride, and ALWAYS remember needs of patient comes first."

After graduating from Brigham Young University in his home state of Utah, Dr. Thaxton went on to receive his Medical degree (MD.,) from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1996. Some years later, in 2003, he completed his Residency in Emergency Medicine through the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC). He also completed a one-year surgical internship at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio in 1997.

This recognition is dedicated in loving memory of his mother, Lorraine C. Thaxton, who always knew her son would go into medicine. He would also like to extend a dedication to Dr. Stephen Recaldon, a British doctor that Thaxton says, "taught me to enjoy the job and to control the chaos."

Outside of work, Dr. Thaxton enjoys woodworking and playing soccer. He is also fluent in German.
