Government of Canada supports Ontario innovators through Build in Canada Innovation Program

Driving Canadian innovations from the lab to the marketplace

SUDBURY, ON, June 15, 2018 /CNW/ - Through the Build in Canada Innovation Program, the Government of Canada is connecting Canadian innovators with their vital first customer and helping generate sustainable economic growth in communities across the country.

Today, Paul Lefebvre, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, announced the Government of Canada is investing in a made-in-Canada water filtration innovation. Activated White Ltd. of Sudbury, Ontario, received a $104,075 contract for its ActivatedWhite Portable Water Filtration System.

The innovation is a form of polymer resin that filters water by absorbing various contaminants, including sulfur and hydrocarbons such as oil, gas, and diesel. The innovation will be tested by Indigenous Services Canada.

Through the Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP), Public Services and Procurement Canada bridges federal departments who have an operational need, with innovative businesses who can fill the gap. Purchasing departments test the innovations in real-life settings and provide feedback, as well as that critical first reference.

Since 2010, BCIP contract awards have helped create 1,684 full-time jobs across the country, generating significant economic impact. This is just one of the many ways the Government of Canada supports innovators, including small and medium-sized businesses, across Canada.

"Our government is committed to growing the economy and the middle class, and helping those working hard to join it. By partnering with home-grown companies like Activated White, the Build in Canada Innovation Program is helping propel Canadian innovations into the marketplace."

Paul Lefebvre
Member of Parliament for Sudbury

"Our company manufactures and sells a revolutionary polymer resin which absorbs oils, chemicals and gases. Getting our first major client in the water filtration market has been a challenge as we develop a disruptive technology since normally water is shipped to large filtering facilities. The BCIP program allowed us to highlight our benefits to First Nation communities with diesel contaminated ground water. We are extremely thankful to the Government of Canada for this truly useful program which helps companies catapult into the market."

CEO, Activated White Ltd.
