Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign Renews Partnership with Aeroplan and Avis Car Rental

Helping friends and families of fallen soldiers taking part in the ceremonial act of tree planting.

TORONTO, June 25, 2018 /CNW/ - When honouring fallen soldiers with new tree plantings, it makes it an extra special event to have their families involved.

Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign (CNW Group/Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign)

The Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign is excited to announce that it will be renewing its partnership with Aeroplan and Avis Car Rental later this month in an effort to encourage Canadians to donate their Aeroplan Miles to the program. From June 25th to July 1st, Aeroplan and Avis will each match all miles donated to the Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign (up to 500,000 miles) to be used for fundraising purposes and to bring special representatives, Silver Cross Mothers, regimental peers and families of the fallen to planting ceremonies. This will triple the impact of Aeroplan Miles donated by individuals.

"Our memorial pays tribute to Canadians from all provinces and territories," said Mike Hurley, Manager of Fundraising & Communications for the Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign. "The generosity of Aeroplan, Avis and donors from across the country ensures that we can have Canadians based nationwide take part in the building of our living tribute."

The Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign is supporting the creation of a living, breathing memorial along the Highway 401 corridor ? known as the Highway of Heroes ? for the Canadians in our families and communities who served and gave their lives in combat and peacekeeping missions.

"Last year, almost 1.5 million Aeroplan Miles were donated thanks to our members and matched by Aeroplan and Avis," said Jennifer Jones, Vice President, Retail, Travel and Strategic Development, Aeroplan. "We're excited to lend our support again alongside our long-standing partner Avis to help make a lasting impact to honour Canadian veterans."

"We have a long-standing commitment to giving back to the communities in which we live and operate, and that includes the Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign," said Bill Boxberger, vice president and general manager, Avis Budget Group. "We're proud to work with Aeroplan once again, and together, honour Canada's fallen soldiers and the families they left behind."

About The Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign
We are planting 2,000,000 trees between Trenton and Toronto, one tree for every Canadian that has served during times of conflict since Confederation and including the war of 1812. 117,000 of the most prominent trees will be planted along and near the stretch of the 401 known as the Highway of Heroes, one tree for every life lost while serving in the Canadian Armed Forces and protecting our country. This tribute offers an opportunity to tell the story of those that have served in the Armed Forces and remind travellers along the highway of the great debt we owe these courageous Canadians. It will also provide a myriad of environmental benefits for generations to come. The Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign is supported by the Government of Ontario, Mark's Choice, Landscape Ontario, TD Bank, Frank Cowan Company, Rotary District 7070, Every Tree Counts, a partnership between Toronto Parks and Trees Foundation and the City of Toronto, Maple Leaves Forever, and the Garden Club of Toronto.
