FAIR Commends Passage of Resolution Supporting ICE and Calls for Increased Funding for Immigration Enforcement

WASHINGTON, July 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The following statement was issued by Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) regarding passage of H. Res. 990, supporting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement:

"House Resolution 990, expressing support for the officers and personnel who carry out the important mission of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), was approved today in the House by a 244-36 vote, with 133 members simply voting present. Recently, the important work that ICE carries out?protecting the interests and security of the American people? has come under attack by open borders activists and the lawmakers that do their bidding. After today, it is clear that this radical, but vocal fringe has infiltrated the Democratic Party.

"It is disheartening that this resolution was necessary in the first place. Furthermore, it is disgraceful that only 18 Democrats could muster support for the brave men and women of ICE who protect our nation every day. It is obvious that there are only 18 Democrats in the House who care more about the safety of the American people than they do criminal aliens. We applaud the members on both sides of the aisle who stood with these hardworking individuals and the rule of law.

"However, more is required than a non-binding resolution. Now, more than ever, it is crucial to increase funding for this important agency and give ICE officers the resources they need to enforce our immigration laws. True support for ICE and immigration enforcement requires action, not just words.

"For the first time in our history, the question for one of our major political parties is not how we should enforce our immigration laws, but whether to enforce them at all. That is a position that is radically out of step with the American people who support enforcement of our immigration laws and the dedicated law enforcement officers who do the job."
