Watercrest Senior Living Group Celebrates the Service of United States Military Veterans in Honor of Veterans Day

VERO BEACH, Fla., Nov. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- This month the associates, residents and community partners of Watercrest Senior Living Group respectfully honor all military veterans and their spouses who served in the United States Armed Forces.  In each of the senior living communities owned and operated by Watercrest Senior Living Group, numerous events are held to recognize resident veterans and their family members and celebrate their service in honor of Veterans Day.

Watercrest Senior Living Group respectfully honors all military veterans and their spouses who served in the United States Armed Forces and recognizes their service through a variety of Veterans Appreciation events this month.

At each of the communities, the veterans and their families were honored by a Veterans Appreciation ceremony with several special guest presenters such as United States Marine Corps Veterans or American Legion servicemen and women. Veterans and spouses were presented with certificates and commemorative pins or received special recognition in honor of their service and patriotism.

The Sebastian American Legion and Color Guard made a momentous and heartwarming appearance at Pelican Landing Assisted Living and Memory Care where veterans and families enjoyed a hearty brunch, live music programs and special giveaways.

At Watercrest St. Lucie West, residents and family members enjoyed Watercrest's patriotic-themed Sunday brunch and a unique opportunity to Skype with U.S. Naval Commander Daniel Kitts.  Commander Kitts, a naval aviator, was received with cheers, answering many questions from the enthusiastic community members.

At Watercrest Lake Nona, residents enjoyed creating Veterans Day vases, poppy flowers, puzzles and trivia, while the honorary ceremony included a patriotic bugle performance and live entertainment.  Next week, Watercrest Lake Nona hosts a memory care and family outing to the local VA Hospital for their 'Gift of Giving' program, a Watercrest common unity initiative.

In 2012, Watercrest principals Marc Vorkapich, CEO and Joan Williams, CFO founded Watercrest to honor our mothers and fathers, aspiring to become a beacon for quality in senior living by surpassing standards of care, service and associate training. Watercrest associates act as faithful stewards and model servant leadership while inspiring a sense of community through their company-wide effort known as Common Unity initiatives.

At Watercrest's all-memory care community, Market Street Memory Care Residence Viera, common unity initiatives are in full effect, as residents and associates have decorated cards for veterans and begun building holiday care packages to send overseas. Their Veterans Day program, hosted by St. Francis Hospice, included patriotic decorations, cake and entertainment for residents and families.

Just north at Market Street Memory Care Residence Palm Coast, residents gathered over coffee to share stories and experiences of their military service.  Nationally certified dementia care practitioners guided residents in unique trivia and history games using IN2L technology, discussed the significance of the poppy flower, and assisted residents in writing letters to U.S. servicemen and women abroad.

A highlight of the events came at Market Street Memory Care Residence East Lake, where after a well-attended and delicious brunch, the community unveiled their Honor Wall.  Each resident veteran's photograph hangs on the Honor Wall and each veteran was individually recognized at the event.

"In the words of Ronald Reagan, 'we remember those who were called upon to give all a person can give, and we remember those who were prepared to make that sacrifice,'" says Marc Vorkapich, Principal and CEO of Watercrest Senior Living Group. "On these days of remembrance and every day in between, we strive to honor those heroes, celebrating their lives and dedication to our country."
