LaFleur Announces Results of Its 2018 Bottle Drive Initiative

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Jan. 23, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- LaFleur, a Grand Rapids digital marketing agency, announced today the results from its 2018 bottle drive as part of its community engagement program. A bottle drive involves collecting cans and bottles with a ten-cent deposit and giving the funds to a designated charity or cause.

"In 2018, each staff member chose a non-profit they like to support and our agency pooled resources to help those organizations in whatever way they needed," said Chip LaFleur, president of LaFleur. Last year, LaFleur's community engagement program efforts helped feed local children, increase play equity, and build awareness for refugee and animal rescue organizations.

"One of our employees is passionate about Native American history. He wanted our agency to hold a year-long bottle drive to benefit the Native American Heritage Association," LaFleur added. "We returned enough cans to raise $92."

Community Partnership

Part of LaFleur's community engagement program is to inspire other West Michigan companies to give back to the community in big and small ways.

"We reached out to local businesses to encourage them to host a bottle drive as well. Collecting the cans and bottles is a small act that can have a big impact," explained Sarah LaFleur, the agency's volunteer and community engagement coordinator. "We were thrilled that The Gluten Free Bar and Millbrook Tack decided to hold bottle drives as well."

The Gluten Free Bar (GFB), a Grand Rapids-based food company, and their 60-plus partnered with LaFleur. They raised $145.

"At GFB, our community is our team members, our neighbors, and the environment around us and we will always support those areas as their success is our success," said Elliot Rader, co-founder at The Gluten Free Bar. Combined with LaFleur's $92, a total of $238 was donated to the Native American Heritage Association.

Millbrook Tack, an equestrian supply store, took a different approach to their bottle drive and encouraged their customers to participate. During the week of Giving Tuesday last November, they asked their customers to bring in bags of cans and bottles and offered in-store gift certificates as an incentive to participate, the bigger the bag, the bigger the gift card.

Millbrook Tack customers brought in 1,270 bottles and cans, along with personal cash donations, raising $227 for the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.

2019 Bottle Drive

LaFleur is holding a year-long bottle drive again in 2019. This year's recipient of the bottle drive will be Urban Roots, a Grand Rapids non-profit that uses urban farming in the Madison neighborhood to bring access to fresh food and sustainability education to underserved communities.

The funds raised will help Urban Roots meet their goal of $500 to expand their community composting program.
