BANDERA, Texas, Feb. 12, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Warriors Heart and Warriors Heart Foundation are proud to host the 17th Annual Wild Hog Explosion on March 16, 2019, in the Cowboy Capitol of the World at the Mansfield Park, 2886 HWY 16 N, Bandera, Texas, 78003, from 10am ? 6pm. The proceeds will help two great causes, including Warriors Heart Foundation (funds residential treatment for military, veterans and first responders) and the Bandera County Public Library. In the spirit of the "Wild West", it's a full day of fun, including a Wild Hog Catch, a Hog Calling Contest, Bacon Bingo and BBQ Cook-off.
This Wild Hog Explosion fundraiser will help Warriors Heart Foundation provide financial assistance to active military, veterans, law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs and other warriors seeking residential treatment at Warriors Heart for addiction, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), mild TBI (traumatic brain injury) and recurring issues.
Warriors Heart Founder and President Josh Lannon emphasized, "Warriors Heart is honored to host this Wild Hog Explosion event and appreciates everyone rallying to heal our protectors. We're located on a 543-acre ranch in Bandera, Texas, and it's a very special place for warriors to rebuild their lives. It's the opposite of a hospital, and part of the property was a former Conference Center and Resort." The ranch includes fishing, hiking trails, a metal and wood shop, Warriors Heart K9 Program and a fire pit where warriors can gather at the end of the day with their peers.
At this 17th Annual Wild Hog Explosion, about 2,000 people will participate in an action-packed day and compete for prizes, including these activities:
Wild Hog Catch ? The "Wild Hog Catch" is where teams of two enter the ring to compete against other teams for prizes. The team is given 1-minute to catch the smart, wild and loud hog with "no pressure." The goal is to catch the hog, put him in a feed sack and get him to the finish line! Each team is then judged on time. Prior to the event, professionals catch about 150 Texas Wild Hogs. No animals are harmed, and they are returned to the wild afterwards (unless someone buys them). As of 2013, there were about 6 million wild hogs in the U.S., and Texas has an estimated 2.6 million in 253 out 254 counties (Wikipedia).
Hog Calling Contest ? There is also a Hog Calling Contest for all ages that always brings good fun and laughs. Callers participate in age groups and are judged by the applause of the crowd. Winners receive a trophy by well-known national sculptor and metal artist, Ester Benedict.
Bacon Bingo ? For pure fun, anyone can enter Bacon Bingo for a chance to win the top prize of $1,000. All proceeds for this event will go directly to the Bandera County Public Library. For this game, a grid is drawn on the ground with 300 squares that sell for $10 each. Wild Wilbur and Wild Willie are then released onto the grid. These wild hogs have donated their time and will "Go" for the library. Everyone watches with great anticipation to see where the hog "goes" first, and whoever bought that square is the winner!
BBQ Kick-off - At 10:30am, attendees can buy a lunch plate and "Pig Out!" on BBQ pork and Kiolbassa Sausage. Anyone can also enter the Lone Star BBQ Association Cook-Off, presented by Buddy's Water Well and Septic Service, to win trophies, bragging rights, and cash prizes for each category! All proceeds will go to Warriors Heart Foundation.
This special event will also include arts and crafts, food and sponsor booths, live music and even a runt and shoat piglet scramble in three competitions for kids ages 3-9. All participants get a ribbon as soon as they touch a hog! Everyone leaves with a big grin and many memories of the Wild West, all for two great causes.
