Coastline College Retiring Executive Dean is the Recipient of the CCME Lifetime Achievement Award


FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., April 16, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Joycelyn Groot, the Executive Dean of Coastline College Extended Learning Campus, was recently honored at the 46th Annual Symposium of the Council of College and Military Educators (CCME).  This award is given to an individual or organization in recognition of their significant contributions toward advancing the cause of military education worldwide, and for years of leadership and service to furthering the education and career goals of military service members, veterans, and their families. 

Joycelyn Groot has been with the Coast Community College District for 35 years and will be retiring this month.  Her experience has encompassed most areas of educational administration (academic, student, and administrative services), with the last 19 years leading efforts that focus on serving the military and workforce populations with their educational and career transition efforts. Joycelyn holds a B.A. in Business Administration and a M.A. in Educational Leadership.

At Coastline, she manages the military, veteran and corporate education, as well as business and workforce development and training programs, including a highly successful intensive training program that provides core job-readiness skills needed for employment in the construction, utilities, energy industries. The CUES (Construction, Utility, Energy, Safety) program boasts more than 80% job-placement rates for veterans, formerly incarcerated and other disadvantaged populations.

Joycelyn became a board member and has served on the CCME Board since 2007, was Vice President in 2010, and became President in 2013.  She has been recognized for her leadership with Coastline receiving numerous awards in the veteran, military, and corporate arenas.  She had the honor and privilege to be an invited participant twice to the White House to participate in educational initiatives ? the first ever White House Community College summit in 2010 and on the Military and Veterans Credentialing and Licensing Task Force in 2012.
