Rising water levels expected - The urban agglomeration of Montréal is upgrading its mobilization level to "Response 2"

MONTRÉAL, April 25, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - In order to face the anticipated rise in water levels, the urban agglomeration of Montréal is rolling out its "Response 2" mobilization procedures, in keeping with the ongoing efforts in this regard. The city continues to work to secure its infrastructures and to support the population in flood-risk areas.  

"Significant precipitations were recorded over the past 24 hours in the Ottawa River basin, and more rainfall is expected by Saturday. This may cause water levels and flow to rise significantly. Urban agglomeration partners are present and active on site. The "Response 2" level implies that, given the current forecasts, the situation may worsen, and our resources will be fully dedicated over a prolonged period of time," explained Bruno Lachance, public protection coordinator for the urban agglomeration of Montréal.

"We are asking citizens in flood-risk areas to remain vigilant and to continue to work towards securing their homes. We would like to remind you that sandbags are available to build dikes. If you haven't already, we encourage you to read about preventive measures on our web site," said Valérie Plante, Mayor of Montréal.

Preparing for flood risks

Water levels and flow are on the rise, but impacts are still minor at this time. 

Thus, citizens are asked to:

• read the material on the Sécurité civile website;
• prepare an emergency kit for the next 72 hours ;
• download the free app Montréal Citizen Services from your App Store, and sign up to the Notices and Alerts service, in order to get emails or text messages with the latest information from authorities;
• dial 311, contact their respective borough office or town hall to get sandbags.

We would like to remind you that rising water levels are particularly affecting the following boroughs: Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Pierrefonds-Roxboro, L'Île?Bizard?Sainte-Geneviève, Rivière-des-Prairies?Pointe-aux-Trembles, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Village de Senneville, Pointe-Claire and Montréal?Nord.
