Canadian Red Cross providing financial aid for flooding relief

Red Cross is registering impacted residents, assessing needs and delivering support

OTTAWA, May 3, 2019 /CNW/ - The Canadian Red Cross has announced financial assistance for households in affected Quebec, New Brunswick and Ontario communities directly impacted by spring flooding. Affected households may receive $600 to help meet their immediate needs.

Since the flooding began, the Red Cross has been working with municipal and provincial governments, local authorities, community leaders and other organizations to help families and individuals who have been impacted. Financial assistance is the latest of many ways in which help is being made available to those who need it.

To receive this assistance, impacted households first need to be registered with the Red Cross so that individual assessments of needs can be completed. People can register by calling 1-800-863-6582, in-person at designated community centres or online at redcross.ca. People only need to register once for their household. Full details of assistance available can be found at redcross.ca/gethelp.

"I encourage every household that has been impacted by the flooding to register with the Canadian Red Cross," said Conrad Sauvé, President and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross. "Registering will ensure people directly affected by the floods will be kept up-to-date with important information and have access to available supports. This has been an incredibly hard time for flood-hit communities, and we want to help as many people as we can."

These funds are available thanks to federal and provincial governments, and generous Canadians who have contributed to the Red Cross Floods Appeals.

Canadians who would like to help people impacted by flooding can make a financial donation to the Canadian Red Cross:
