Mercedes-Benz Canada reports May sales


TORONTO, June 4, 2019 /CNW/ - Mercedes-Benz Canada and its national dealer network reported sales of 4,051 passenger vehicles, vans, and smarts in May 2019, bringing to 18,122 the number of vehicles sold year-to-date. The manufacturer's SUV lineup contributed to these results ? the GLC, GLA, and GLE were listed among the top five volume drivers in May as well as in the first five months of 2019. The C-Class Sedan and A-Class Hatch were also included among the company's leading sellers for the month and year-to-date.

In May, Mercedes-Benz Canada delivered 3,534 passenger vehicles, of which 1,564 were cars and 1,970 were SUVs. Year-to-date, the company retailed 15,810 passenger vehicles, including 6,818 passenger cars and 8,992 luxury light trucks. The GLC SUV was the top volume driver for the month as well as year-to-date, with sales growth of 25.8% compared to May 2018 and 26.6% over the same time last year.

Mercedes-Benz Vans delivered 435 units in May. Year-to-date, the division sold 2,166 Sprinter, Sprinter Cab Chassis, and Metris vans.

82 smart fortwo vehicles were delivered in May.

Mercedes-Benz Canada's Pre-Owned division reported 1,483 units sold in May, including 1,257 Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicles. The division retailed 6,799 units in the first five months of 2019, of which 5,598 were CPO. Year-over-year CPO penetration continued to grow, rising to 82.3% in May 2019 (+3.1% compared to May 2018).

"Though May sales were impacted by limited availability of our most popular passenger vehicles, we anticipate that our inventory will be returning to normal levels throughout the summer selling season," said Brian D. Fulton, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada. "We will continue to work with our dealer network to mitigate the effects of this temporary shortage."
