American Legion Dorchester Post 91 Donates Another $16,000 To Support Veteran Patients

BALTIMORE, Aug. 17, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The American Legion Dorchester Post 91 in Cambridge, Md., donated another $16,000 in July to the Veterans Affairs (VA) Maryland Health Care System for the benefit of veteran patients, adding to a donation in the same amount it made to the health care system just one month ago.

This most recent donation from Post 91 will enable the VA Maryland Health Care System to purchase a wheelchair scale ($4,000), an exam table ($4,000), a cardiac monitoring system ($4,000), 10 rolling blood pressure cuffs ($2,000), and ophthalmic lenses for eye exams ($2,000). These items will greatly enhance the health care services provided to the veterans living on the Eastern Shore and throughout Central Maryland.

"I salute the members of American Legion Dorchester Post 91 for supporting the men and women who have worn the cloth of our nation and are now receiving their health care from the VA Maryland Health Care System," said Dr. Adam M. Robinson, Jr., director of the VA Maryland Health Care System. "As a veteran with more than 30 years of service in the U.S. Navy, I can attest to how much this will mean for our veteran patients and their family members."

As a federal agency, VA receives a congressionally appropriated budget every fiscal year to cover the cost of VA health care services and day-to-day operations, but charitable donations are used to pay for supplemental expenses and special needs. All monetary donations to VA are tax deductible and 100 percent of all donations go to directly support the needs of Maryland's veterans. For information on how to make a donation to the VA Maryland Health Care System, visit http://www.maryland.va.gov and click on the "Volunteer or Donate" link.

The VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) provides a broad spectrum of medical, surgical, rehabilitative, mental health and outpatient care to veterans at two medical centers, one rehabilitation & extended care center and five outpatient clinics located throughout the state. More than 52,000 veterans from various generations receive care from VAMHCS annually. Nationally recognized for its state-of-the-art technology and quality patient care, VAMHCS is proud of its reputation as a leader in veterans' health care, research and education. It costs nothing for Veterans to enroll for health care with the VA Maryland Health Care System and it could be one of the more important things a Veteran can do. For information about VA health care eligibility and enrollment or how to apply for a VA medical care hardship to avoid future copayments for VA health care, interested Veterans are urged to call the Enrollment Center for the VA Maryland Health Care System, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 1-800-463-6295, ext. 7324 or visit http://www.maryland.va.gov
