Veterans With The Mission Continues Unite In Service To Honor 9/11/01

NEW YORK, Sept. 5, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Throughout the month of September over 500 veteran volunteers will lead service efforts across the country in remembrance of the September 11th terror attacks. The veterans are volunteers with The Mission Continues, a nonprofit organization that empowers veterans to continue their service and empowers communities with veteran talent, skills and preparedness to generate visible impact.

In reverence for those affected and who served in the wake of 9/11/01, The Mission Continues has organized United in Service, a month-long campaign of community service projects meant to strengthen the country from within. Nationwide, veteran-led service platoons will mobilize to tackle local needs such as under-resourced schools, maintenance in national parks, blight removal and safe access to community green spaces.

"The United in Service campaign is an opportunity to honor those who served and sacrificed in the aftermath of 9/11," said Mary Beth Bruggeman, U.S. Marine Corps veteran and president of The Mission Continues. "This month, we'll mobilize veteran and community volunteers into action that positively impacts and empowers communities across the country."

Hundreds of community organizations, corporate partners, and non-veteran volunteers will join forces with the veteran-led service platoons for a lasting positive impact. The service projects, located in 46 cities, will include efforts in Baltimore, MD; New York, NY; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Chicago, IL; and San Juan, PR, to name a few.

In Puerto Rico, 150 veterans and volunteers will report for duty to conduct ongoing Hurricane Maria recovery efforts on the island. This project is powered by The Starbucks Foundation and will aim to help add capacity to the coffee farming industry, which was heavily impacted by the hurricane. Over the course of the day, volunteers will partner with three local farms and replant 3,600 coffee trees.

United in Service is just one example of the many opportunities to serve with The Mission Continues. Veteran volunteers are leading long-term local impact year-round in communities across the country.
