Cold War Patriots Celebrates 11th Annual Official National Day of Remembrance
DENVER, Oct. 8, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Cold War Patriots (CWP), a community resource organization that is the nation's strongest and most sustained voice advocating for nuclear weapons and uranium worker benefits and has been fighting for members' rights for over a decade, will host 11 events across the country in late October to commemorate the 11th Annual Cold War Patriots Official National Day of Remembrancetm.
New this year, local non-profit organizations will co-host many of the events (see details below) with Professional Case Management, the leading in-home care company for nuclear weapons and uranium workers.
Each year, at CWP's request, the U.S. Senate passes a bipartisan resolution that designates October 30 as a day to honor the men and women working in the U.S. nuclear weapons and uranium industries and to remember those who are no longer with us. These patriots ? more than 1 million in total ? often worked in secrecy and have been instrumental in protecting our nation from World War II to today.
"Since 2008, our organization has fought tirelessly for workers' rights, most recently against rule changes that could restrict access to health care for thousands of sick and dying workers," says Tim Lerew, Chairman of the CWP Advisory Committee. All events will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
At the events, which include a complimentary lunch, workers will be able to reconnect and socialize with their colleagues. Workers will sign a Cold War Patriots Official National Day of Remembrancetm banner, which will be hung in the local CWP office as a reminder of the workers for whom the organization advocates.
At each event, the program will feature remarks by local, state and/or federal dignitaries and/or community members, the posting of the colors, Pledge of Allegiance, invocation, and a patriotic video.
A Living Legends Pinning Ceremony will be conducted where a commemorative pin will be given to the former nuclear weapons or uranium workers in attendance. The program will also include a moving candle lighting ceremony where names of the fallen Cold War Patriot heroes will be read. A local performer will sing a song as part of this remembrance.
