U.S. Under Secretary for Benefits, Dr. Paul R. Lawrence to Discuss Military Employment and their Benefits

PHOENIX, Oct. 23, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The HeroZona National Veteran Summit powered by U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Hiring Our Heroes is pleased to announce executive roundtable discussions, a fireside chat and panels on Wednesday, Nov. 6, during the second day of the three-day long engagement. The event will take place at the Sheraton Crescent Hotel (260 W. Dunlap Ave.) in Phoenix and discuss topics such as how military talent adds value to the workforce, what it means to be a military friendly business, entrepreneurship for servicemen, and lack of employment opportunities for military spouses and caregivers.

The day will begin at 11 a.m. with morning panels such as Talent Hiding in Plain Sight: the Untapped Talent Pool of Student Veterans hosted by Student Veterans of America, Arizona State University and Maricopa Community Colleges; Emerging Trends in Leveraging Public- Private Partnerships from Syracuse University, FourBlock, Department of Labor Veterans' Employment and Training and Arizona Department of Veterans' Services; and Nonprofits and Public Sector Collaboration and Military Spouse Employment Challenges hosted by Elizabeth Dole Foundation.

At noon the fireside chat will begin, benefiting the Goldwater Institute's signature initiative Breaking Down Barriers to Work Act, which is a new law ensuring that Americans are free to work, no matter where they live through ensuring their professional licenses are universally recognized when they move to a new state.

"Veterans lose jobs when they move and aren't able to quickly become relicensed in another state," said HeroZona Foundation Founder and U.S. Army Desert Storm Veteran, Alan "AP" Powell. "In some cases it can cost thousands of dollars and many hours of unnecessary training, which is why I'm excited for Arizona to learn more about the Breaking Down Barriers to Work Act."

The fireside chat and luncheon will be hosted by the Goldwater Institute and Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The keynote speaker will be President and CEO of the Society for Human Resource Management, Johnny C. Taylor Jr. The fireside chat will also include President and CEO for the National Newspaper Publishers Association and Civil Right Leader, Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr.; and President and CEO of the Goldwater Institute, Victor Riches. The event will be moderated by President and CEO of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Glenn Hamer.

The fireside chat will address the positive impact of Arizona Governor Doug Ducey's decision to implement this act in Arizona through the signing of the universal reciprocity bill. It will explore how the Goldwater Institute in conjunction with the fireside chat's co-hosts are moving this model policy into states across the country.

Afternoon luncheon speakers will include Dole Caregiver Fellow for Arizona's Elizabeth Dole Foundation, Craig Remsburg; U.S. Under Secretary for Benefits, Dr. Paul R. Lawrence; and Director of Veteran Programs for Cisco, Michael Veysey.

The day will conclude with the HeroZona Awards Dinner to celebrate individuals and businesses making an incredible impact on veteran and military spouse employment in Arizona and represents the foundation's three pillars: education, employment and entrepreneurship.
