Help Heal Veteran's and La-Z-Boy Incorporated team up and recycle 400,000 pounds of materials to help veterans

WINCHESTER, Calif., Nov. 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Help Heal Veterans (Heal Vets), a nonprofit dedicated to serving military veterans by supplying them with therapeutic craft kits, is pleased to announce that over the past two years it has received a donation amounting to over 400,000 pounds of recycled material from La-Z-Boy Incorporated.

Help Heal Veterans repurposes the unused leather, cloth, and other materials to create therapeutic craft kits that are sent to veterans and active-duty military around the world to help with long-term support and recovery for those impacted by wounds of war.

Recycled leather skins, cloth, and wood are used in the production of many Heal Vets therapy kits. Individual handmade dyes cut the leather into the components for each kit, which the veteran will put together, using glue or hemp cord. To date, the joint recycling effort between Help Heal Veterans and La-Z-Boy has kept over 400,000 pounds of product upcycled and out of landfills and created 47,894 therapy kits with a retail value of $1,538,647.00.

Help Heal Veterans' partnership with La-Z-Boy plans to reach an impactful Half-A-Million pounds of donated, recycled material by Earth Day 2020.

Commitment to sustainability is at the forefront of Help Heal Veterans' mission. It instills a drive to ensure the long-term existence of its business, its partners' businesses, its natural resources, the human talent necessary to provide the products and services it offers, the communities within which it operates, and the well-being of those it serves.

CEO of Help Heal Veterans, Joe McClain, said, "We greatly appreciate La-Z-Boy's donations year after year. The company has been a major asset to our production. Incredibly, a company as large as La-Z-Boy is dedicated to an almost zero waste policy, while at the same time, it is healing so many of our nation's veterans."

Darrell Edwards, Chief Operating Officer of La-Z-Boy Incorporated, said, "We are delighted to partner with the Help Heal Veterans organization to support our nation's veterans as they go through the healing process. In addition to helping the men and women who served our country, in concert with our reduce, reuse and recycle philosophy, we are also caring for the environment as we eliminate waste."
