The Veterans and Citizens Initiative: Moving Forward Together, an Effort to Bolster Faith in Democratic Elections and Promote Unity Among Americans

WASHINGTON, Nov. 5, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Veterans and Citizens Initiative: Moving Forward Together launched its efforts today. They are a nonpartisan group of veterans, military families, and military family and veteran support organizations committed to working with their fellow Americans in a nonpartisan manner to ensure a peaceful election and post-election period.

These Americans have served our country in uniform, and they are now serving our country as citizens, working to ensure peace, solidarity, and unity during the election period, however long it takes for votes to be counted and results to be decided.

"I have great confidence in our country's ability to hold free, fair, and peaceful elections this year and to count every vote," said Chris Purdy, an Army veteran and the Director of Veterans for American Ideals. "We have done this for nearly 250 years without fail. It may take a bit longer to count all the votes, especially of those active duty military overseas who mailed their ballots while deployed, but we have a duty to be patient."

These veterans and military families are taking action because they believe deeply in our duty as citizens - that we must work to come together as a nation after this election. "We served to defend America's values, preserving the unalienable rights of all citizens as defined by our Constitution," said Lauren Augustine, Vice President of Government Affairs of Student Veterans of America. "SVA upholds these shared values, including the right to cast a vote and have it counted, for all Americans and we call for a civil, orderly post-election peace to ensure the stable continuity of government."
