MAJ David Wallace Recognized as Teacher of the Term at Fork Union Military Academy

FORK UNION, Va., Mar. 25, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Fork Union Military Academy congratulates MAJ David Wallace today in announcing that he has been named as our Teacher of the Term for Term 3 of the 2020-2021 academic year. Cadets submit nominations for the Teacher of the Term at the conclusion of each grading term. The cadet nominations are reviewed and evaluated by the Teacher of the Term/Year Committee, which is made up by non-academic staff members, and the committee then announces the recipient of the Teacher of the Term honor.

MAJ Wallace has been on the faculty of the Academy since the 2018-2019 school year, teaching English and Social Studies to middle and upper school cadets. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in history and modern languages from Virginia Military Institute (VMI). MAJ Wallace joined the Albemarle County Police Department in 1996 and served in roles including Community Policing Officer and Patrol Officer. In 2011 he moved into a supervisory role with the department and worked as a leader in the department until his retirement from law enforcement in 2018. He also served in the US Army Reserve from 1995 to 2014, including a posting in Iraq in 2005-2006 as the Military Transition Team Leader in the northern Iraqi city of Tal Afar where he worked to train and develop Iraqi officers and non-commissioned officers. By the time of his retirement from the US Army Reserve in 2014 he was serving as the Battalion Commander of an Army Reserve Basic Combat Training Battalion.

Outside of the classroom, MAJ Wallace can be found coaching Fork Union Military Academy's rifle team and is the faculty sponsor of the scale modeler's club for cadets.

MAJ Wallace received many nominations from cadets describing his firm, but kindhearted attitude. One cadet wrote, "MAJ Wallace is one of the most caring individuals a student could have. He has concerns for all of us and is willing to listen to any of our problems and wants to see us improve and succeed. MAJ Wallace has incredible knowledge and knows what he talks about which creates a positive educational environment for all."

Another cadet shared that, "I was always able to bring my problems to him and never feel judged." Others shared that MAJ Wallace is "consistent," "positive," and "amazing."
