Green Home Systems Takes a Stance Against New CPUC NEM 3.0 Proposal

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 22, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) announced December 13th the NEM 3.0 policy proposal which includes the highest state solar tax in the United States. If passed, this could be a massive roadblock for the path to a 100% renewable energy future which is why Green Home Systems, a leading California-based solar company, is urging Californians to take action today.

The NEM 3.0 proposes monthly fees for residential grid access, a reduction of bill credits for Californians who decide to make the switch to solar and removes many of the essential solar incentives that aid in the affordability of a solar panel system. By taking away solar incentives, it will greatly diminish the amount of people who decide that solar is a financially beneficial decision thus decreasing the amount of people who will decide to go solar.

One of the many issues with the proposal is that the fewer people who go solar, the more people who will continue to have to rely on unreliable utility companies. Not only are utility companies subject to outages and blackouts, but they are in complete control and can decide to shut down the grid when threat of fire is high or whenever else they deem necessary. Not to mention, the shortcuts and ill-practices of utility companies have been blamed for many devastating wildfires like those that tore through Northern California in late 2018.

Managing Director of Green Home Systems, Robbie Hebert, states, "Powering your home should not cause risk of wildfires and you should never be expected to go without power for any extended period of time. We want Californians and everybody across the country to be in control of their own home and rely on only the most dependable energy source we know of: the Sun."

In addition to the unreliable power and the unsafe practices utility companies offer, NEM 3.0 will also have a negative impact on the environment. With the goal to obtain a 100% renewable energy society within the next few decades, this be one of the many hurdles to overcome.

"The truth is, the sooner we as a country switch to total renewable energy, the better," states Hebert. "Our environment is hurting and we at GHS are on a mission to help be the cure, but in order to help sooner rather than later, we will need to keep solar as affordable as possible. So we urge all Californians to take a stand against the new proposal NEM 3.0. Do it for your wallet, your environment and your future."
