Despite Texas's laws banning abortion, obtaining abortion care just got easier for the women of Texas and Southeast New Mexico.

Freedom Care, a new abortion clinic located just 5 miles from the Texas border, is now seeing patients in Hobbs, New Mexico.

HOBBS, N.M., July 26, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Despite Texas's laws banning abortion, obtaining abortion care just got easier for the women of Texas and Southeast New Mexico. Freedom Care, a new abortion clinic offering abortions by pill or by in-office aspiration procedure, is now seeing patients in Hobbs, New Mexico.

Freedom Care is the only abortion clinic in southeast New Mexico and is located only 5 miles across the Texas state line, making Freedom Care the closest legal abortion clinic to the State of Texas, as well as to most Texas cities. For cities which we aren't the closest, we are located at a similar distance as other providers.

In addition, we have the benefit of being located in New Mexico, where there are no waiting period laws, no parental consent requirements and no state mandated counseling. This allows us to see our patients efficiently and in one day - no need for overnight stays or multiple trips, which clinics located in other states cannot do.

We also have appointments available immediately, meaning patients don't have to wait weeks before getting the healthcare services they need.

In addition to Texas, Freedom Care is very happy to serve the women of our home-state, New Mexico. Freedom Care's abortion services were made possible by the excellent Decision recently made by the New Mexico Supreme Court which placed a stay on a City of Hobbs ordinance that restricted access to abortion.

Freedom Care offers many abortions services including abortion pills, surgical abortions, medical abortions, abortion doulas, Family or Friend Accompaniment, Fast-Track Abortions, Private Abortions, Abortions combined with IUD placement, and Abortions combined with Depo-Provera injection.

We offer discounts for: patients who have to travel long distances and low-income women who have Medicaid. In addition, Freedom Care is able to accept funding from any abortion funds able to provide financial assistance for our patients.

Freedom Care's Director, Tamara Burton, has lived in Hobbs for most of her life. After graduating from Hobbs High School, Tamara worked as a pro-choice activist in Clinic Defense and as a Patient Escort for Planned Parenthood of Midland, Texas. At that time, she thought it was "ridiculous" that the good women of Hobbs had to drive all the way to Midland, Texas to get an abortion.

When Texas outlawed abortion, Tamara realized that the situation was even worse, because there are even more women in Texas, and they now have to travel even farther to obtain a legal abortion. Tamara decided that something needed to be done, and since her hometown of Hobbs is right over the Texas border, Tamara realized that she was perfectly positioned to support the women of Texas and the women of New Mexico, by helping to open Freedom Care.

Tamara Burton, Director of Freedom Care, stated that "as a long-time pro-choice activist I am really excited to help Freedom Care in providing gynecological care and abortion services to women in need. I think this will be very helpful to the women of Southeast New Mexico and to the women of Texas. I look forward to serving our patients."
