Prevent Blindness Georgia Raises $320,000 To Expand Their Vision Saving Initiatives For Underserved Youth and Adults At 7TH Annual Night for Sight Gala

Prevent Blindness Georgia (PBGA), the state's leading voluntary eye health organization dedicated to saving sight and restoring vision, is proud to share that it has successfully raised $320,000 to support its vision saving initiatives for thousands of Georgians at its 7th Annual Night for Sight Gala this past October at the Whitley Hotel. The funds raised will support their ongoing vital children's vision services and help them expand to reach even more school systems across Georgia.

In 2023, PBGA achieved a historic milestone by serving the largest number of Georgians in its history, including 51,120 school children and 3,412 financially insecure adults. Since its inception in 1965, PBGA's mission has been focused on ensuring that every individual has access to essential eye care and vision-saving treatments. According to the United Health Foundation, 12.6 percent of Georgia's population currently lacks private or public health insurance coverage.

"We are incredibly grateful for our 2023 Person of Vision, Scott Bullock," said Jill Thornton, President and CEO of Prevent Blindness Georgia. "Scott emulates excellence in the eyecare community, and he is a distinctive leader and truly embodies our mission of saving sight and restoring vision of school children and financially insecure adults. Scott was incredibly valuable in helping us exceed our Gala goal. We have achieved more than we thought possible this past year thanks to his mentorship. His professional integrity motivates others to excellence, creating a better vision for all of us. Scott's voluntarism on behalf of vision care while also advancing vision health access, equity, and vision care has made Georgia a healthier place to live."

During their annual Night for Sight Gala, PBGA recognized as their 2023 Person of Vision, Scott Bullock, the Co-Founder of EyeSouth Partners and 2021 & 2022 Board of Directors Chair for Prevent Blindness Georgia. Under his leadership, the organization surpassed its annual goal of providing children and adult vision screening, eye exams, and prescription eyeglasses, in addition to raising half a million dollars to sufficiently update the necessary eyecare equipment for their certified vision screenings and eye exams. Aside from these initiatives, he implemented his knowledge as a past PGA golf professional to revitalize the organization's annual Cast and Swing for Sight Golf & Fishing Tournament. Since the start of his involvement, he has recruited eye doctors within the EyeSouth Partners network to volunteer their time, providing eye exams for PBGA's children's vision clinics and providing eye surgery for PBGA's qualified adults.

"Vision is a gift and PBGA continues to give that gift to thousands of children throughout Georgia, year after year," said Scott Bullock, 2023 Prevent Blindness Person of Vision and Co-Founder of EyeSouth Partners. "Upon discovering PBGA, I recognized the importance of getting involved and started recruiting our EyeSouth Partners doctors to champion their mission. Without PBGA's tireless work, tens of thousands of children would be unable to participate in school and beyond. Thanks to them, we are building brighter futures for the children of Georgia."

The event drew a crowd of 275 individuals, with distinguished guests including the award-winning TV producer Rikki Klaus, Oswaldo Canto, the Deputy Consul General of Mexico, Monica Marin, the Deputy Consul General of El Salvador, Charles S. Shapiro the Former Ambassador of Venezuela, and Rafael Huerta, NWGA Outreach Manager from the Latin American Association. Lilac Wine and Phillip Arrington provided musical entertainment the night of the event. Guests enjoyed delicious filet mignon and sea bass for dinner, and a scrumptious crème brûlée cheesecake. It was a fun evening had by all, and PBGA looks forward to seeing everyone again next year.
